| Welp... I just found out last Friday that I'm going to deploy early next year to Iraq. People ask me all the time if I'm scared to go, and my response is usually, "not really." If anything, I'm more anxious to go than not. I feel like I would make more of a difference there than I do sitting at my desk. Right now, it's a 6 month deployment. When you're deployed, you usually work 12 hr days, 6 days a week. I'm also a bit excited because now I get to buy and wear my Desert Combat Uniform (DCU). I'll post pics when I get them. :) Oh, I can't really say when or where I'm going because that's secrety information until I get there. :D It's pretty good timing because now I get to be the best man at Mike's wedding in December back at Purdue! My first time in a wedding party and I get to be the best man! I'm so excited, and I'm not even getting married. haha. Maybe the bride will introduce me to some of her bride's maids. hehehe. I also get to wear my Air Force tuxedo! Here's what it looks it: Umm...xanga changed and now I have no clue how to upload photos. I'll post it later....if I can :) | | |
| I went snorkeling for the very first time today and LOVED IT! Got an underwater camera for $10 so I'm so excited to see how the pictures came out. The water temperature was like perfect and it was sunny. You couldn't ask for better weather. It was definitely one of the most awesome time of my life. haha. If you have never gone, I would DEFINITELY recommend it. Next up, SCUBA diving! Just need to get my certification. hehe. :D | | |
| 7 week TDY (temporary duty) for my technical school (AF Officer Civil Engineer training). 6 weeks of power points and 1 week of pure sweat. MAN, it's good to be home...I think it's good to get away from the norm once in a while because it makes you appreciate the things you have that much more. It really is true that you don't appreciate the things you have until you don't have it anymore. Like sleeping without have to worry about mosquitos eating you alive! geeze! good memories though. :)

Us Boarding the chartered plane for 1 week of Officer Field Education

70+ Officers X 2 Luggages per Officer = Tiresome morning
Building the Alaskan Small Shelter System that we would later sleep in

My fight had the higest grades so guess what we were lacking up above... :)

Fire ABO MOPP 4....you get used to the acronyms. It's like another language. haha

Bulldozer...lets just say that I didn't do too well on the bulldozing part. lol

0300 (aka O dark hundred), start of the last day of OFE

16 hrs later....DG=Distinguished Graduate, but for the rest of us non-genius, it's Done Graduated :D
| Anywho, since last May, this has been the fastest year of my life. I can still remember a lot of the things from last summer like they were just yesterday. It feels like I just came out of wedding season and now I'm headed into it again.
I also can't believe I've been over here in Okinawa for over 2 months now. I just met a few people yesterday who have been here less than I have. I feel like an old man. So far, I've enjoyed of the things over here, but the thing that's the hardest is just companionship. It's harder when you're in the real world and a heck of a lot harder when you're 10,000 miles away from your old friends. I can't wait to enjoy new experiences in life, but I also can't wait to head back and enjoy the old ones as well.
On a side note, Memiors of a Geisha is fastly becoming one of my favorite movies. It's shot just beautifully. If you haven't seen it, I really recommend it. Maybe renting it because it may not make too much sense the first time around.
